Nepal’s monsoon brings lush landscapes but also occasional road disruptions in the Himalayan foothills. We are issuing this official travel alert for all trekkers planning the Langtang Valley Trek.

As of August 26, 2026, the road to Syabrubesi, the main gateway to the Langtang Valley Trek, is temporarily blocked due to flooding and landslides. All our clients are safe.

Where is the disruption?

The disruption is on the access road to Langtang National Park in Rasuwa District.

The block is at two critical points:

  • Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 on the Trishuli-Mailung-Syabrubesi road
  • Syau Parking area in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2 on the Pasang Lhamu Highway

Syabrubesi (1,503m) is the starting point for Langtang Valley Trek, Tamang Heritage Trek and Gosainkunda Trek.

What Happened?

On the morning of August 26, a huge and sudden flood entered the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibetan side, causing major damage in Timure and Syabrubesi areas of Rasuwa. The flood caused massive damage in the Timure Bazar and Syabrubesi areas, damaging markets, hydropower projects and communities downstream along the Trishuli River.

Heavy monsoon rain has also made the lower Langtang regions near Syabrubesi and Bamboo exposed to landslides until late September.

Current Road Status

According to Nepal Police Headquarters and the Department of Roads:

  • The Trishuli-Mailung-Syabrubesi road section at Khalte has been completely blocked after the Trishuli River eroded the road.
  • The Pasang Lhamu Highway has also been completely blocked after a landslide struck the Syau Parking area.

Road clearance teams are on site. We expect clearance in 2-5 days after water level recedes, but we will only resume treks after our own safety check.

Impact on Langtang Valley Trek

Upper Langtang Valley is safe. Villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa have no damage reported.

The problem is only access. You cannot drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi right now.

Therefore, we have temporarily paused all Langtang Valley Trek departures from Syabrubesi from August 26 to September 5, 2026.

Alternative Treks for Now

If you are in Kathmandu now, we recommend these fully open and safe alternatives:

1. Tamang Heritage Trail Trek – 6 Days
Same Rasuwa region, starts from Dhunche which is still accessible. Same Tamang culture.

2. Gosainkunda Lake Trek via Dhunche – 6 Days
Sacred lakes trek, beautiful alternative when Langtang is blocked.

3. Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 10 Days
Best weather in Annapurna region right now. No road issues.

4. Everest Panorama / Namche Bazaar Trek – 7 Days
Flights to Lukla are operating normally.

Safety and What Broad Adventure is Doing

Your safety is our first priority.

  • All Broad Adventure groups currently in Langtang are safe and accounted for.
  • We are monitoring road status every 2 hours through our team in Dhunche and Syabrubesi.
  • We are offering Free Date Change to late September/October 2026.
  • We are offering Free Route Switch to any alternative trek at the same price.
  • We will provide official road closure documents for your travel insurance if needed.

What Should You Do?

If you have a booking for Langtang Trek between August 28 and September 10:

  • Please do not travel to Syabrubesi directly.
  • Contact our office in Thamel via WhatsApp or email.
  • We will arrange your alternative trek or new dates within 1 hour.

If you are planning for late September and October, your trek is not affected. The monsoon usually ends by mid-September and roads are stable.
